The Gombori Ridge ( Georgian გომბორი ) is a mountain range in the Georgian part of the Greater Caucasus . The ridge is located in the province of Kakheti in eastern Georgia and has a length of 107 km. The highest peak, Mount Ziwi , is 1,991 m above sea level.
The Gombori ridge is also a watershed for the drainage areas of the Alasani and Iori rivers , which also divides Kakheti itself into an outer and inner region. The mountain range is criss-crossed by smaller river valleys, whereby the course of the Asani across the mountains has a significant influence on the climatic conditions in the region. The northern and southern slopes are dominated by pine forests .
In 2011 the mountain range was discussed as a possible base for a missile defense station of the USA , with which large parts of Iran and areas as far as India could have been monitored.
