New Gate (Hildesheim)
The New Gate , also popularly known as the eye of the needle , is one of the last two gates of the city fortifications of Hildesheim , along with the Kehrwiederturm . It breaks through the Kehrwiederwall immediately south of the Lappenberginsel and was built from 1511 after the Godehardikloster was included in the fortification.
Immediately beyond the wall was the vineyard, which has been preserved as the street name. The Hildesheim Clinic was located here until September 11, 2011. Further south, arable and pasture areas in the area around the village of Hohnsen were connected .
