The New Gate is the eastern and youngest of the four city gates of Neubrandenburg's old town. Built in the style of the north German brick Gothic, it is located on the east side of the medieval fortification. The New Gate leads across the park of the ramparts, interrupted by the four-lane city ring , to Katharinenstrasse and the Katharinenviertel . It is the only Neubrandenburg city gate without a front gate.

The name New Gate refers to the fact that this gate was only added to the three-gate city fortifications in the second half of the 15th century. Originally the Torkomplex from the main gate, front gate and was Zingel . The Zingel fell victim to the siege of Tilly in the year of its completion, 1631 ; the entrance gate was demolished in 1852 because it was in disrepair.

On the city side of the main gate (as well as at Stargarder Tor ) there are eight adorants or angels who stretch their hands towards the city in a blessing. Nothing is known about their exact meaning, they are the material for various narratives.
