Neugrünebacher Hut

The Neugrünebacher Hütte is located between Grünebach and Alsdorf in the Altenkirchen district directly on the Heller . The river was dammed in Grünebach, and the water used for iron extraction was conducted to the hut via the “Hüttengraben”.

In 1738 the hut and the blast furnace were built by 50 local founders, but it is likely that there was a hut in the same place earlier. According to the “Saynischer Hüttenordnung”, the founders of the hut were allowed to smelt iron in their hut 72 days a year. In 1741 the hut was sold from a stately property.

In 1878 the hut got its first steam blower. Around 1900 around 20 workers produced almost 6000 tons of special pig iron annually. From 1912 the product name of the steel that left the smelter was "Kalterblasenes Siegerland special pig iron". In 1934 the Lübeck company “ Possehl ” bought the hut; in 1812 it had already bought the Niederdreisbacher hut . After the Second World War , sales of the hut fell. On July 12, 1963, operations were shut down.

In 1983 the hut was listed and is now open to visitors. You can see the old blast furnace, equipment and tools as well as utensils used by the ironworkers and a photo documentation.
