Neurigona quadrifasciata is a fly from the family of long-legged flies (Dolichopodidae).
features
The flies reach a body length of 3.5 to 5 millimeters. The animals have a very slender, yellowish colored body. The thorax is clearly flattened in front of the abdomen. The legs are thin and long, the middle pair of legs are clearly missing end bristles. The acrostichal sturgeon are clearly two-rowed. The five-segment abdomen is relatively long. The large hypopyg at the end of the abdomen is in two parts , the appendages are not easily recognizable. The males have a brush made of black hair on the tarsi of the front pair of legs. There are a number of easily confused species within the genus Neurigona .
Occurrence and way of life
The animals are found in Central and Southern Europe. You can find them in forests, preferably sitting on tree trunks. During the foreplay when mating on the female, the male buzzes with its wings while sitting on the female and directs the elongated front pair of legs forward towards the female.
