Neusaß is a residential area in the community of Schöntal in Hohenlohekreis in Baden-Württemberg . In the High Middle Ages , the Schöntal Monastery was founded there around 1152 , before it was relocated to its current location in the “beautiful valley” of the Jagst a few years later. Later a Marian pilgrimage to the Neusaß pilgrimage chapel developed and a market took place there until 1876. In Neusaß there is also the forester's house Neusaß with outbuildings, the Heiligenbrünnlein, the former fish pond of the monastery and the several hundred year old Neusaß linden tree .

location

Neusaß is located about one and a half kilometers southeast of the Schöntal monastery at an altitude of 335 m on the Hohe Straße between Kocher and Jagst.

history

Celtic burial mounds show that the area dates back to 1000 BC. Was settled. Neusaß was mentioned in 1157 as Nuweseze and 1163 as Nusaze . A little earlier, a monastery was founded by monks from Maulbronn Monastery near a spring on land donated by Wolfram von Bebenburg , which was then moved to the Jagst Valley between 1157 and 1163 . The church of the modest monastery building in Neusaß and the monks' fish ponds were preserved in Neusaß. A Marian pilgrimage to Neusaß is documented for the first time in 1395. In 1397 King Wenceslas granted market rights. The chapel was expanded in 1667 and 1706. During the renovations in 1667, the Heiligenbrünnlein was also redesigned.

Various monastery facilities were once located in the vicinity of the chapel. The Accishütte, in which the taxes of the wine bars and butchers were collected, existed until 1880. There was also the Weinhäusle and the forester's house built in the 18th century, which has been preserved to this day. The fair in Neusaß took place for the last time in 1876.
