Fähre in den Tod is a German television film from 1996 that illuminates the investigation into a shipwreck. The "Estonia" accident , which occurred two years earlier, serves as a model for the film . It was produced and broadcast on behalf of the broadcaster Sat.1 .

action

During the hasty loading of a delayed car ferry called Castor , which runs between the (fictitious) locations Storesund and Glückshaven , the truck drivers Jonny Schmid and Bernd Molkenhauer notice that the trucks are not moored, as it would be actually required on ferries. The captain Eriksen also receives a storm warning . He wants to bypass the storm, while his deputy Clas van Damme suggests the direct course. Now Eriksen has a heart attack, van Damme takes over and the disaster takes its course.

The next day comes the bad news: the ferry has sunk. Now the long search for the cause begins.

background

The film is based on the Estonia disaster of September 28, 1994, but does not show the actual catastrophe, but focuses on the subsequent investigations and responsibilities.

The first broadcast on Sat.1 was on March 10, 1996.

It was the last film by the actor Hellmut Lange . Hellmut Lange was born at the end of the sixties a. a. famous as a leather sock.

reception

"Director Heiner Carow staged a moving psychological drama that does not focus on the images of the catastrophe, but rather follows those affected in the hours and days after the accident."
