The New Dawn rose variety is one of the most popular climbing roses. It's a sport of the 'Dr. W. van Fleet 'and was discovered at the Somerset Rose Nursery in 1930.
Growth and characteristics
Although it is descended from Rosa wichuraiana , it does not bloom just once, but remounted . Its large, pinkish-whitish, half-double flowers smell of apples and grow in clusters. In autumn it forms many rose hips , from which seedlings can easily be cultivated.
It has healthy, dense foliage on long, strongly thorny shoots that can grow up to 4 m long. 'New Dawn' is very easy to care for, robust and also tolerates partial shade. Overall, it has such good properties that it was voted World Rose in 1997 . It was the first rose to be patented in the USA. In 1959 Berger discovered 'White New Dawn' - a white sport with otherwise identical properties.
use
'New Dawn' can be attached to a climbing aid in combination with clematis e.g. B. Clematis viticella 'Etoile Violette' or Clematis viticella 'Kermesina' can be planted; a traditional combination in English gardening culture.
