The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) is India's oldest book fair , held in New Delhi since 1972 and will be held for the 25th time in 2017. It is a public fair that currently attracts over a million visitors annually. According to its own statements, the NDWBF is "the largest book event in the Afro-Asian region". It has been organized since 2013 by the National Book Trust , an autonomous organization subordinate to the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Indian government.
The 25th NDWBF will take place from January 7th to 15th, 2017. The theme of this fair will be Books on and By Women .
history
The first fair took place from March 18 to April 4, 1972 with 200 exhibitors at Windsor Place . It was officially opened by the Indian President VV Giri . The Pragati Maidan - a conference and exhibition center opened in 1972 near the Purana Qila fortress - has been the location of the event since the second fair in 1976 . The NDWBF took place every two years until 2012 and in 2008 it was the most popular to date with 1343 exhibitors. The book fair has been held annually in January / February since 2012.
The 20th NDWBF took place from February 25 to March 4, 2012. It was opened by the Indian Minister of Education Kapil Sibal and had "Towards 100 years of Indian Cinema" on the topic.
The 24th NDWBF, which had the motto "Vivid Bharat - Diverse India", took place from January 9th to 17th, 2016. The guest of honor country was China . The fair was opened by the Indian Minister of Education Smriti Irani .
