New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra

The New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra (NORO) was an orchestra founded in 1967 by the Swedish pianist Lars Edegran , who moved to New Orleans in 1966, based on the extensive sheet music of John Robichaux's ragtime , cakewalks and other popular music of the time archived at Tulane University re-performed from about 1890 to 1920.

NORO played at the Newport Jazz Festival for the Louis Armstrong celebrations, recorded several records and toured Europe in 1974. In the early 1970s it attracted attention because it brought orchestral ragtime back to life for the first time (alongside Gunther Schuller 's New England Ragtime Ensemble , founded in 1972 ) after ragtime became known again through the music for the film " Der Clou " (1973). Founding members were the violinist William Russell (1905–1992), the trumpeter Lionel Ferbos (born 1911), the bassist Walter Payton junior , the Swedish clarinetist Orange Kellin (born 1944), the trombonist Paul Crawford (1925–1996), who was also im Archive of Tulane University worked and co-initiated the foundation, and the drummer John Robichaux (born 1915), the nephew of the band leader John Robichaux mentioned.
