The New York and Brighton Beach Railway or NY & B.B for short. Railway was a 4.8-km standard gauge - railway line in Brooklyn on Long Iceland , New York . She started at the ship pier in Locust Grove, New Utrecht and ended on Brighton Beach of Coney Iceland .

history

The NY & B.B. Railway was opened for passenger services on August 5, 1880 and was in operation until the end of the season on September 19, 1880. It resumed operations in 1881, according to an 1881 report to the NY State Railroad Commission . It only carried 4,867 passengers, with revenues of just $ 2,726 versus expenses of $ 17,602.

In the early morning hours of July 27, 1881, the terminus on Brighton Beach was completely destroyed by a fire that was probably caused by arson. The damage was $ 35,000, which was only partially covered by insurance. Half of the vehicles, seven with an estimated value of $ 16,000, were destroyed. The line was sold in 1884 and renamed the Sea Beach & Brighton Railway . It was used by the Boynton Bicycle Railroad for two years from the summer of 1890 .
