Newent Railway

The Newent Railway was a British railway company based in Gloucestershire , England .

history

The company was founded on August 5, 1873. Together with the Ross and Ledbury Railway they built a railway line from Over Junction near Gloucester to Ledbury . The connection of the routes of the two companies took place at Dymock . Due to financing problems, the completion was delayed, the Great Western Railway received in 1874 and 1885 approval for corresponding further equity investments in the Newent Railway. On July 27, 1885, the 20.5 kilometer long railway line opened, most of which followed the bed of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Canals . The Great Western Railway took over the company on July 1, 1892.
