hospital

The Hospital of Ngaoubela ( Hôpital Protestant Ngaoubela ) is a hospital of the Cameroonian Evangelical Church ( Eglise Evangelique Lutheran Cameroun , EELC) in Ngaoubela. The hospital has 150 beds, two operating theaters, an X-ray machine, an ultrasound machine and a laboratory. This makes the Ngaoubela Hospital the best equipped hospital in the Djérem district .

The hospital is supported by an American Lutheran church and the Austrian association "Development Partnership for Cameroon". Thanks to the Catholic parish in Frastanz , it is possible for Austrians to do community service in the Ngaoubela hospital as an alternative service abroad . The Austrian doctor Dr. Elisabeth Neier has lived and worked there without interruption since 1986.

history

The hospital was founded in 1947 by Norwegian missionaries as a leprosy station. At that time, the Lamido of Tibati provided the grounds for caring for the infectious patients far outside of his city. Over time, the focus has shifted more and more towards a regular hospital, as thanks to the support from abroad it has become the best technically and professionally equipped hospital in the region. Since 2003 it has had the status of a district hospital - one of the very few private hospitals in Cameroon.
