Ngoma (Zambia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ngoma is a place in the south of the Kafue National Park in the central province of Zambia . It is located south of the town of Itezhi Tezhi .

Ngoma is a gamekeeper settlement of the Zambian Wildlife Authority (ZAWA). 200 rangers live here with their families. There is a small information center on local wildlife and a primary school.

Ngoma Lodge closed a few years ago after poachers nearly wiped out the animal population. Today the animal population is almost stable. The work of the gamekeeper is bearing fruit. In the meantime you can occasionally see large herds of impala , bushbuck and more often elephants. Leopards also sneak around the village at night. The other animals in the park rarely come to this area.

Next to Ngoma flows the Nkala brook, which falls completely dry in the dry season, but overflows its banks in the rainy season and floods the plain between the hills Nakalombwe, Nkala and “Hühnerschrei”, some hundred meters higher. Then crocodiles live there. The water is not deep enough for hippos.

Ngoma is connected to the electricity grid, but not all houses have electricity. Electricity is mainly used for the water pump that secures the drinking water supply from a borehole. There is a small airfield in the south of the village.
