Olaf Koschnitzke (born September 12, 1966 in Grevesmühlen ) is a former German wrestler.

Career

Olaf Koschnitzke began as a teenager with rings . After initial successes in the junior division, he was delegated to ASK Vorwärts Frankfurt , where as a member of the NVA he had the best training conditions and in Maik Bullmann an excellent training partner. He started exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. He made his debut at international championships in 1986 at the European Junior Championships in Malmö , where he came in an excellent 2nd place in the middleweight division.

In 1987 he was first used at the European Championships in Tampere with the seniors. He gave a good performance there and fought against Harri Koskela from Finland for the bronze medal. In this fight it was 3: 3 2 seconds before the end, when the referees gave Olaf the 3rd warning and made Koskela the disqualification winner. In the other international championships or tournaments in 1987 he could not place in the front field.

His good 5th place at the 1988 European Championships in Kolbotn and his 7th place at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul deserve all respect . But it already became clear that the way to the absolute top of the world would be difficult for him.

In 1989 he celebrated his greatest international success by winning the bronze medal at the European Middleweight Championship in Oulu . He also trained a lot of weight. A method that, as it is very exhausting, he could not always use. In addition, after the German reunification in the middleweight division, Thomas Zander from Aalen was a tough competitor who finally prevailed against him in the fight for the starting place at the international championships. The light heavyweight division was occupied by world champion Maik Bullmann.

Olaf Koschnitzke therefore ended his international career after 1990.
