Nguyễn Huy Thiệp

Huy Thiệp Nguyễn (born April 29, 1950 in the Thanh Tri district in Hanoi ) is a Vietnamese writer .

Life

He was brought up by his Buddhist mother, and his Confucian grandfather also influenced him.

His first literary works appeared in 1986 . Since 1990 he has been working as a freelance writer. It occupies an important place in the contemporary literature of Vietnam . With Nguyễn's tale The Retired General , the “literature of renewal” began. Huy Thiệps Nguyễn focuses on short stories. He also writes plays and poetry.

He has two children and lives in Hanoi, where he runs a restaurant .
