Nişan-i İftihar
The Nişan-i İftihar ( Ottoman نشان افتخار İA Nişān-ı İftiḫār ) was an Ottoman order .
It was also referred to as an order or mark of fame. It was founded by Sultan Selim III. The foundation date was August 19, 1831.
The order was especially intended for deserving foreigners. It was renewed in 1837.
Order decoration
A gold, richly ornamented medal with the sultan's name on it formed the decoration. A diamond ring surrounded the medallion. Golden rays were visible in the upper half, while the lower half arched upward, intertwined with branches studded with diamonds. Between the upper rays a diamond-studded crescent moon with a hanging star, where the ribbon was placed. The decoration was given with different rich diamond decorations. It represented a silent gradation. The order was decorated with 160 precious stones.
Ribbon
The order was worn on a ribbon, but also on a chain. A red ribbon with green stripes on the side was required for foreigners.
