Capacity and infrastructure

The stadium has a capacity of 15,000 seats.

International cricket

The first test match at this stadium took place in March 1973 between Pakistan and England . Since then it has been the venue for numerous international encounters. The first One-Day International at Iqbal Stadium was played between Pakistan and Australia in September 1982 . At the Cricket World Cup 1987 a preliminary round match was played in the stadium. International games were played here until 1997, before complaints about the lack of accommodation options arose at a tour match in the West Indies . The condition of the stadium and the playing area subsequently no longer allowed the event to take place properly. In 2007, the Pakistani Association took the initiative and took possession of the stadium. After renovation work, an ODI took place against Zimbabwe again in the 2007/08 season . Since the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore in 2009, no further international games have been played here.

National cricket

First-class games have been played in the stadium since 1962 . It is the home of Hyderabad .
