Nicanor Costa Méndez (born October 30, 1922 in Buenos Aires , † August 3, 1992 ibid) was an Argentine politician and diplomat .

Costa Méndez was born into a wealthy family in 1922 and studied law at the Universidad de Buenos Aires until 1943 . After completing his doctorate , he opened a law firm in Buenos Aires. Between 1962 and 1964, Costa Méndez worked as the Argentine ambassador to Chile . Under the presidency of Juan Carlos Onganía , Costa Méndez was appointed foreign minister and served in this position from 1966 to 1969. Under Leopoldo Galtieri he was again in the position of Argentine foreign minister between 1981 and 1982. Although Costa Méndez was an avowed anti-communist, he sought the support of the Eastern Bloc during the Falklands War and took part in a meeting of the non-aligned states in Cuba, where he was received by Fidel Castro , among others .
