Nick Sloane

Nicholas "Nick" Sloane (born July 5, 1961 in Kitwe , Zambia ) is an expert on ship salvage .

Life

Sloane became known for leading the righting operation on the wreck of the Costa Concordia in September 2013. The year before, it had collided with a rock and was aground for 20 months. This was preceded by 16 months of preparatory work.

In 2015 Sloane received the German Ocean Prize .

June 2019 it was reported that he was planning to haul an iceberg with a mass of more than 100,000 tons using ocean currents from Antarctica to the west coast of South Africa in order to extract drinking water from it.
