German Ocean Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Ocean Prize is an award jointly presented by the GEOMAR Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel and Deutsche Bank under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein . The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and has been awarded since 2009 to people "who have made a special contribution to the preservation, protection or communication of knowledge about and about the oceans."

The German Sea Prize integrates the Elisabeth Mann Borgese Sea Prize , which was awarded by the Schleswig-Holstein state government from 2006 to 2009 with a similar objective. The Elisabeth Mann Borgese Marine Prize was awarded both as a science prize endowed with 20,000 euros and as an undoped honorary prize for political and social commitment to the preservation and protection of the seas. It was named after the ecologist and maritime law expert Elisabeth Mann-Borgese , a daughter of Thomas Mann .
