Nicky Phelan

Nicky Phelan (* in Ireland ) is an Irish animator and film director .

Life

Phelan studied animation at Ballyfermot College of Further Education from 1999 to 2003 and initially worked as a freelance animator before joining the Irish animation studio Brown Bag Films in Dublin in 2005 . Among other things, he directed commercials and in 2006 made the short animated film series Crap Rap . With Kathleen O'Rourke , Phelan wrote the script for the short animated film Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty , which he also directed. Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty was nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for Best Animated Short Film. From 2012 to 2013 Phelan was the director of the animated series The Octonauts . He received an Irish Animation Award in 2015 for directing the short animation series Bing .
