Live and act
Nicolas Palacios was born in Santa Cruz in 1854 . He is considered a forerunner of the nationalist movement that reached its peak in the second decade of the twentieth century. His book Raza chilena ( The Chilean Race ) was published anonymously in 1904 (2nd edition 1918). His racist theories were echoed by the historian Francisco Antonio Encina (1874–1965) in his extensive Historia de Chile (History of Chile) and had a great influence on the young nationalist intellectuals of the next decade. They form the ideological backbone for many Chilean Nazi Groups. By the later Chilean dictator Pinochet (1915-2006), for example, the "Chilean race" was described in his Sintesis Geografica de Chile as follows: "as" of white color, of medium and strong stature, lively intelligence and pronounced national feeling ". Her "most prominent characteristics" include "physical resistance" and "work zeal". "
In 1907 was Nicolás Palacios eyewitness to the massacre in the School Santa Maria in the port city of Iquique , a mass murder of the Chilean military to Salpeterarbeitern .
