Nicola Jane Bryant (born October 11, 1960 in Guildford , Surrey ) is a British actress .

life and career

Byrant is the eldest daughter of a heating installer. At the age of three she took piano lessons. At the age of ten she applied to several ballet schools, but was not accepted into any school due to her asthma . So she decided to devote herself to acting. She attended Webber Douglas Drama School. While in school she married Broadway singer Scott Kennedy, but later separated from him. Her last appearance with the drama school was a leading role in the musical No, No, Nanette . There she was discovered by an agent who asked her if she was going to audition for the British television series Doctor Whowant to come. Bryant got the role of Peri Brown, which she played from 1984 to 1986. Peri was a companion to the fifth and sixth doctors . After retiring from Doctor Who , Byrant worked primarily in the theater. She has appeared in productions such as So Long on Lonely Street , Jeeves , Twelfth Night , Killing Jessica and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf . She also appeared on television in Blackadder's Christmas Carol and in the Doctor Who Special Dimensions in Time . From 1992 to 1995 she played Miss Brown in three films in the The Stranger film series. In 1995 she played one of the main characters in the children's series The Biz . In 2007 she appeared in Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll , a West End production. In the radio plays by Big Finish , she speaks her Doctor Who character Peri Brown again.
