Nicolas Passavant
Nicolas Passavant (* June 1559 in Luxeuil ; † March 4, 1633 in Basel ) was a co-founder of the silk industry in Basel.
life and work
The noble Huguenot Nicolas Passavant came as a religious refugee from Luxueil via Frankfurt am Main to Basel, where he acquired citizenship in 1596. Here he worked first as a barchent, then as a silk ribbon weaver (trimmers). As early as 1599 he ran the largest ribbon weaving company in Basel with a total of seven journeymen and three apprentices.
