Nicolas Racot de Grandval

Nicolas Racot de Grandval , called “Le Père Grandval”, (* 1676 in Paris ; † November 16, 1753 ibid) was a French composer , harpsichordist and dramaturge .

Nicolas Racot was the son of the actor and painter Daniel Racot de Grandval and Marguerite Poirier. Even in his childhood, Racot worked in his parents' drama troupe. Through this activity he met the actor and author Dancourt at the Comédie-Française . In 1695 and 1696, Racot accompanied most of the divertissements and court ballets given at the court of Versailles on the harpsichord . Afterwards Racot was organist at the church of St-Eustache .

Racot created numerous vaudevilles and set several plays for Dancourt and Marc-Antoine Legrand .

In addition to some comedies of a burlesque character with titles such as: Le Pot de chambre cassé , he wrote an Almanach des proverbes pour l'année 1745 , a collection of proverbs, under the pseudonym Cartouchivandeck .

His son Charles-François Racot de Grandval was also an actor and dramaturge.
