Nicolaus Weitz
Nicolaus Weitz (* 1579 in Frankfurt am Main ; † in the 17th century) was a Frankfurt lawyer and a leading actor in the fat milk uprising .
Weitz studied law from April 28, 1598 at the University of Marburg and from 1600 at the University of Jena where he was awarded a Dr. jur. received his doctorate. He lived as a lawyer in the imperial city of Frankfurt.
During the Fettmilch uprising, Weitz played a leading role in the rebels. Weitz was heavily indebted to the city's Jews and therefore had a strong interest in the plundering and expulsion of the Jews.
In 1612 the council of the imperial city was expanded by 18 members and Weitz was elected to the council. He was chairman of the commission to regulate the debt relationship between Jews and Christians. In 1614 he was elected to the city school .
After the uprising ended, he was arrested in 1615 together with Fettmilch and 37 other rebels and placed under the authority of the Bishop of Mainz, who arrested the prisoners in Aschaffenburg. There Weitz converted to the Catholic faith. This led to the fact that he received a comparatively mild sentence: he was banned from Frankfurt for life.
