Nicolo de Caveri

Nicolo de Caveri was a Genoese cartographer who was in the Portuguese service. Different variants are used to spell the name, such as Nicolay de Caveri, Nicolay Canerio, Nicolo Canerio, Nicolaus de Caveri, Nicolaus de Caverio, Nicholas de Caveri, or Nicolai de Caveri . All are based on different readings of the signature found on the back of the card that person created. The exact dates of this cartographer's life are not known. Since the card is dated to the period from 1503 to 1505, a birth in the 15th and death in the 16th century can be assumed.

The work mentioned, here referred to as the Caveri map , is considered to be a primary source of the world map by Martin Waldseemüller from 1507.
