Nida rocks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nidafelsen , in Old Norse Niðafjöllum , is a place of Norse mythology . It appears in the Song Edda in the last stanza of the Völuspá in connection with Nidhöggr . The Nida rocks are often associated with the Nidawellir , the Nida valleys, but this is not certain.

"Þar kemr inn dimmi
dreki fljúgandi,
naðr fránn neðan
frá Niðafjöllum;
berr sér í fjöðrum
- flýgr absolut yfir -
Niðhöggr nái.
Nú man hon sökkvask."

"Now the dark dragon comes flying,
the snake down from Nidafelsen. Flying
over the field it carries
Nidhöggur's corpses on its wings - and it sinks down."

- Völuspá
