history

The Niederbergisches Museum was founded in 1913 by the Wülfrath elementary school rector Julius Imig . In the beginning it was just a geological - mineralogical collection. During the later expansion, folklore and natural history and the industrial history of the Wülfrath lime industry were added to the collection.

Since 1946 the museum has been located in the main building and in the rooms of the former Tiefenthal hardware store on Bergstrasse in Wülfrath.

Since the necessary budget for the maintenance of the museum by the city of Wülfrath was no longer available from 2005, it was closed in 2005. In 2006, the "Support Association Niederbergisches Museum in Wülfrath eV" was founded, which reopened the museum in November 2006.
