Willi Münch

Willi Münch (born December 24, 1930 ) is the former director of the Niederbergisches Museum and head of the cultural office in Wülfrath, as well as the author of numerous works on local history.

Live and act

Münch initially trained as a graduate in administration and was then employed by the Wülfrath city treasury. Then he was in the building administration office and in 1957 took over the museum management of the Niederbergisches Museum, founded in 1913. There in the museum he introduced the Bergische Kaffeetafel and added important details to the permanent exhibition, such as the importance of limestone mining for Wülfrath.

Later he was appointed head of the cultural office and head of the lower monument authority. He has made a name for himself in the preservation of monuments in the city. He is still active today as a volunteer monument commissioner. Ware had been instrumental in developing the twinning with the British town of Ware .

Münch has been a member of the Heimatbund for over 50 years. Wülfrath was its chairman for 17 years and has been honorary chairman from 2009. For 29 years he was a member of the advisory board of the Rhenish Association for the Preservation of Monuments in Cologne. Münch was also appointed as an advisory board member in the Lower Landscape Authority and acted as deputy chairman.

Artistic activity

Münch works as a painter, draftsman and caricaturist.

• 1967: Albert Steeger Prize (scholarship holder) together with Nikolaus Kyll
• 1990: Rheinlandtaler , for voluntary services in the scientific research of local history
• 1991: Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany : Cross of Merit on ribbon
• 2009: Honorary chairman of the Heimatbund Wülfrath
• 2011: Ring of Honor of the City of Wülfrath
