tasks
In its work, the NIW has devoted itself to current economic and economic policy issues. One focus and unique selling point was the description, analysis and evaluation of the economic development of Lower Saxony and its regions.
The work of the NIW was divided into five research areas:
- Competitiveness, structural change and industries
- Education, Qualification, Labor Market and Demographic Change
- Regional and location analyzes
- Evaluation of political interventions
- public finances
A closer cooperation with the Leibniz Universität Hannover, established in 2010, strengthened the scientific profile and scientific quality of the institute. In this context, scientific qualification positions (doctorate, post-doc) were created in the following years and a number of dissertations were written by employees of the institute.
