Nieuw-Haarlem

Nieuw-Haarlem (New-Haarlem) was a village in Nieuw Nederland (New-Netherlands), which was founded by a group of farmers under the leadership of Petrus Stuyvesant .

The place was formally recognized by the Dutch West India Company in 1658. In 1664 it was conquered by the British. Today Nieuw-Haarlem is part of the city of New York as the Harlem district .
