Nigel Evans (* 10. November 1957 in Swansea , Wales ) is a British politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

Evans graduated from Swansea University . Since 1992 he has succeeded Michael Carr in the House of Commons for the Ribble Valley constituency. In December 2010, he came out as gay. From 2010 to September 10, 2013, he was the second Vice President of the House of Commons (official title: First Deputy Chairman of Ways and Means ). He resigned after he was charged with suspected sexual abuse. Evans denied the allegations. During the 2013 trial, Evans was charged a total of 7 cases of sexual assault, including rape, of young men between 2002 and 2013. On April 10, 2014, Evans was acquitted of the charges.
