Night Gallery is an American television series that ran on NBC from 1969 to 1973 . It consists of a pilot film and 43 episodes, divided into 3 seasons. The moderator and author was Rod Serling , creator of the cult series Twilight Zone .

Each episode begins with Rod Serling appearing in an old museum, introducing eerie paintings to the audience and telling the stories that go with them. The number and length of the stories vary in each episode. Unlike Serling's previous series, Twilight Zone, which relies more on science fiction elements, Night Gallery focuses on horror and mystery.

As with the Twilight Zone , Rod Serling wrote most of the scripts for the Night Gallery himself. These included adaptations of works by other authors (for example the HP Lovecraft stories Coole Air and Pinkman's Model ).

The eerie paintings were made by Thomas J. Wright.

The pilot film premiered on US television on November 8, 1969. The 3-episode film was directed by Boris Sagal, Steven Spielberg and Barry Shear. In Germany, the film was released under the title ... and the nightmares continue on video in 1987 and on DVD for the first time on October 18, 2019.

The television series ran from December 16, 1970 through May 27, 1973 on NBC.

Awards

Night Gallery was twice nominated for an Emmy .

Rod Serling won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for the script for the Night Gallery pilot.
