Nihat Sorgeç

Nihat Sorgeç (* 1958 in Antakya ) is a manager and association official. He has lived in Germany since 1972. After studying mechanical engineering in Berlin , he took on tasks as a product manager and sales engineer in the private sector. He has been in the education industry since 1988. He is the managing partner of the BWK BildungsWerk in Kreuzberg.

From 2002 to 2004 he worked on the board of the Turkish-German Entrepreneurs Association Berlin-Brandenburg (TDU), from 2004 to 2006 Sorgeç was then deputy chairman of the TDU. Since 2005 he has been a member of the General Assembly of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is active in the working group of entrepreneurs of foreign origin. From 2004 to 2005 he was active as president of the Lions Club "Berlin-Cosmopolitan", which he helped to establish as a founding member. He is also a founding member and chairman of the board of the “Antikes Antiochia” association in Berlin. The Turkish-German Chamber of Commerce(TD-IHK), which he co-founded in 2003, Sorgeç was the founding vice-president until the end of 2010. Sorgeç was a participant in the German Islam Conference and the Integration Summit and is available to various ministries and parties as an advisor on educational and integration issues as well as on issues relating to German-Turkish economic relations. He was a jury member at the Körber Foundation , the Herbert Quandt Foundation and is a founding member of the “Club Interkulturell” association.

The "Turkish-German Club" awarded him an award in 2005 for his services to friendship and understanding between Germans and Turks as well as his exemplary commitment to promoting the education and integration of immigrant children.

In 2005, Sorgeç was one of the initiators of the "Berlin Tulip", an award for German-Turkish public spirit that has been given annually by the integration commissioner of the Berlin Senate since then; Nihat Sorgeç is also a sponsor and jury member here.

In 2008, Sorgeç received the Federal Cross of Merit in recognition of his social commitment to work, training and equal opportunities for socially disadvantaged and disabled people.

In April 2010, Nihat Sorgeç accepted an invitation from US President Barack Obama to Washington to attend the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, which aimed to improve understanding and economic relations between the US and the Muslim world. Sorgeç also took part in the follow-up conference held in Istanbul in December 2011.

For his work at the BWK BildungsWerk in Kreuzberg, Nihat Sorgeç received the 2010 Integration Prize from the Berlin State Advisory Board for Migration and Integration Issues.

As part of the International Migrants Day 2012, the “Role Models for the Integration Society 2012” prize was awarded for the first time in December 2012. Prize winner Nihat Sorgec was honored for his achievements in finding and implementing solutions for the training and further education of migrants in his company.

Sorgeç is co-initiator, founding member and chairman of the VMW-Verband der Migrantenwirtschaft e. V.

Since 2011, Sorgeç has been the deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Eberhard Schulz Foundation for social human rights and participation. He is also the chairman of BATI e. V. Initiative of the European Turks in Berlin e. V.
