Nii Ashitey Nsotse (born April 19, 1955 near Accra , Ghana ) is a Ghanaian musician and drum teacher. He lives in Wiesloch .

biography

Through his family, Nii Ashitey came into contact with traditional music at an early age; his father taught him to drums at the age of ten . Ashitey decided to train as a professional musician at the National Folcloristic Company Arts Council of Ghana . Ashitey studied music, drumming and dance as well as drum making there. He completed his training with the title of National Drummer , today the musician has the title of Master Drummer . Nii Ashitey was a member of the National Folkloric Company , which represented Ghana at the Commonwealth Games in Canada, and is a co-founder of the Ghanaian music festival Nafac Festival. As a musician, solo and with his band Nokoko , which he joined in 1972, his path also took him beyond national borders, including to Nigeria , Togo and Benin . In 1983 he came to Germany to offer drum and dance workshops. In 1985 the band Nokoko went on their first European tour. Since 1986, three studio albums have been created together with the Nokoko Yé group (renamed). The most successful album of these is probably Bushtaxi from Bamako to Accra , which was released in 2001 (ft. Kassoum Traoré) and scores with unusual instrumentation.
