Niklaus Wenk

Niklaus Wenk (born January 28, 1913 ; † August 12, 2013 ) was one of the most important representatives of Appenzell and Toggenburg peasant painting .

Life

Niklaus Wenk comes from Wildhaus in Toggenburg . Before he started painting, he was a farmer , wild hayman and woodman. Wenk had only been painting since 1980, when a serious operation made it impossible for him to work. Without having learned to paint, he began to depict everyday rural life. His pictures are assigned to naive painting . Some pictures are exhibited in collections of art museums. There are also solo exhibitions.

Until 2006, Niklaus Wenk lived in the old Tatschhaus in Boselen, Wildhaus , most recently in an old people's home in Alt St. Johann . He was the father of four sons and four daughters, two of the sons continue to run his farm.
