Nicocles (rhetorician)

Nikokles from Sparta ( Greek  Νικοκλής Nikoklḗs ; * around 310; † around 388) was a Greek grammarian , rhetorician and philosopher. He is best known as the teacher of the Roman emperor Julian . As his teacher in Constantinople , he was of some influence and held in high regard. The works of Nicocles have neither survived nor known. Information about him comes mainly from the work of Libanios , who was an admirer of Nicocles. He mentioned him several times in his works and wrote him many letters. Here Nicocles is characterized as an excellent person of particular learning, especially in the areas of grammar, rhetoric and philosophy.
