Nikola Wiegand

Nikola Wiegand (born March 3, 1963 in Frankfurt am Main , † April 19, 2005 in Orange County ) was a German basketball player .

career

Wiegand, whose home club Grün-Weiß Frankfurt was, was the best basket scorer in the German selection at the European Cadet Championships in 1980 with 17.5 points per match. With the senior national team she took part in the European Championship in 1983 and scored an average of 12.0 points per encounter. Between 1982 and 1990 she played a total of 89 international A matches for the Federal Republic.

At club level, the winger with DJK Agon 08 Düsseldorf was nine times German champion and four times German cup winner. In 1983 and 1985 she moved into the European Cup final with the Rhinelander. In May 1991 Wiegand resigned from performance basketball. She then emigrated to the United States and worked in California as a self-employed glazier . She died of cancer on April 19, 2005.
