Nikolai Petrovich Obolensky
Prince Nikolai Petrovich Obolenski ( Russian: Николай Петрович Оболенский ; * 1790 ; † 1847 ) was an Imperial Russian officer and holder of the order Pour le Mérite .
Life and family background
Nikolai Petrovich Obolensky belonged to the Chernigov branch of the widespread descendants of the Varangian Rurik , the founder of the Russian Empire and, like all Obolenskis, descended from Mikhail Vsevolodovich , Prince of Chernigov . He was born in 1790 as the son of Prince Peter Nikolajewitsch Obolenski, Kaiserl. Russian real councilor and later governor of Voronezh , and Alexandra Tyuttschew was born.
His younger brother was the guard officer and Decembrist Yevgeny Petrovich Obolensky .
Military career
Nikolai Petrovich Obolensky joined the Imperial Russian Army as an officer candidate . Most unusual in his parentage, he became a pioneer officer. At the outbreak of the Wars of Liberation , he was captain in the 1st Pioneer Regiment and adjutant to Lieutenant General Baron von Sacken. He asked in a letter on September 7th / 26th. August 1813 (the day of the Battle of the Katzbach , which was victorious for Prussians and Russians over the French Marshal Jacques MacDonald ) to General von Blücher , the commander in chief of the Silesian Army of the Allies, Obolensky and other Russian officers, King Friedrich Wilhelm III. to propose an award. Literally it says in this letter: "... EE (= Your Exellency) I have the honor to send a list of those officers of my commanding army corps for whom I subserviently request evidence of the mercy of SM from the King of Prussia ...". His adjutant Obolensky was also included in this list. Friedrich Wilhelm III. fulfilled this wish and awarded Nikolai Petrovich Obolensky the order Pour le Mérite .
Obolensky continued to serve in the Russian army and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He was married to Princess Nathalie Wolkonsky and had a son with her.
