Nikolai Sergeyevich Shatsky

Nikolai Sergeyevich Schatski (in the English language Nicholas Shatski , Russian Николай Сергеевич Шатский , born on August 16, jul. / August 28, 1895 greg. In Moscow , died on August 1, 1960) was a Soviet geologist to questions about Specialized in tectonics and ancient overburden .

In 1943 he was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . Since 1953 he was a full member of the academy.

The Shatsky Rise , an oceanic plateau in the North Pacific , is named after him. The same goes for Shatskiy Hill , a hill in Queen Maud Land, Antarctica.

Since 1982, the Russian Academy of Sciences (formerly the Academy of Sciences of the USSR ) has awarded a Shatsky Prize for advances in tectonics.
