Nikolai Stepanovich Andrushchenko

Nikolai Stepanowitsch Andruschtschenko (born September 10, 1943 - April 19, 2017 ) was a Russian journalist for the Novy Peterburg newspaper in St. Petersburg , Russia . He was a well-known critic and part of the opposition to Vladimir Putin in Russia. Andrushchenko was involved in a documentary about Putin. The film, titled Who is Mr. Putin, linked President Putin to organized crime.

Nikolai Andrushchenko was on his way to a business meeting on March 9, 2017 when strangers beat him near his home. Andrushchenko was taken to the Mariinsky Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a traumatic brain injury. An attempt was made to save his life with an emergency operation, but he had to be put into an artificial coma. Andrushchenko died on April 19, 2017.

Denis Usov, editor of Novy Peterburg, believed that the attack was related to Andrushchenko's articles on corruption in St. Petersburg. The attack was investigated by the 78th St. Petersburg Central District Police Department, but according to Alevtina Ageyeva, director of Novy Petersburg, “the police are unlikely to put much effort into the investigation as Andrushchenko has written a lot about the arbitrariness of the police and he was not liked because of his intransigence ”. The attackers are unknown.
