Nikolaus Risch

Nikolaus Risch (born July 24, 1949 in Lemgo ) is a German chemist . From 2008 to 2015 he was President of the University of Paderborn .

Life

After graduating from high school, Risch studied chemistry at the Technical University of Braunschweig from 1968 to 1973 . There he received his doctorate in 1975 . In the following year he took up a position as a research assistant at Bielefeld University , where in 1984 he received his habilitation on “Substituted 1-Aza adamantane ”.

In 1992 Risch was appointed professor at what was then the University of Paderborn. From 1995–99 he was Vice-Rector for Planning and Finances and a member of the University's Rectorate, from 1999–2003 first dean of his department, then the newly formed Faculty of Natural Sciences. In October 2003 Nikolaus Risch was elected Rector of the University of Paderborn. In 2007 he was elected president of the university. He held this office until February 28, 2015.

Nikolaus Risch is an active orienteer and is involved in this sport on a voluntary basis, including in the Friends' Association Orientierungslauf eV, which he co-founded in 1993 and of which he was chairman until 2015. Since 1990 he has been the head of discipline for orienteering in the General German University Sports Association (adh) .

Awards

In October 2004 Nikolaus Risch received the negative Big Brother Award in the “Regional” category for camera surveillance in lecture halls and computer pools at the University of Paderborn.
