Nikolaus Thon

Ipodiakon Nikolaj Thon (Russian: Николай Тон ; * 1948 in Herne ) is a Russian Orthodox theologian .

Until his death in 2014 he was first personal advisor and then Episcopal Council of Archbishop Longin von Klin in the permanent representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Germany. Now he is in the Berlin Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate head of the department for interchurch relations and deputy archbishop at the ACK. Thon has also been managing director of the Commission of the Orthodox Church in Germany since it was founded in 1994 ; since the establishment of the Orthodox Bishops' Conference in Germany on February 27, 2010, he has been its general secretary and also its commissioner for television and radio work.

From 1985 to 2003 he was editor of the magazine for Eastern Church Art Hermeneia , since 1997 he has been editor of the information service Orthodoxie aktuell published on behalf of the Bishops' Conference .

Since 2015 he has also been a lecturer at the Orthodox Thyateira Midland Ecclesiastical Seminary (TMES) in Walsall (Great Britain) with a focus on church history and canon law.
