from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nima Mehrdadi (born March 23, 1973 in Tehran , Iran ) is a former German basketball coach and manager.

The mechanical engineer with a doctorate played in the youth and senior teams of the Paderborn Baskets and was already training a youth basketball team at the age of 16. At the age of 20, Mehrdadi took over the coaching position for the reserve team of the Paderborn Baskets and the assistant coaching position in the 1st team. With which he was promoted to the 1st basketball league in 1993. An interlude followed in 1997/98: Mehrdadi took care of Iran's junior national team before returning to the baskets as an assistant coach, which meanwhile played in the 2nd Bundesliga. There he replaced Werner Rotsaert as head coach in February 2001.

In the same year he initiated the "1st basketball league" concept together with President Bert Bruch, who has since passed away. Nima Mehrdadi became sporting director, Doug Spradley head coach and a very successful collaboration began. Four years later, he was promoted to the 1st basketball league again. The winning streak of 50 successes in a row, which is unique in Germany, is still known to every basketball fan today. With a concept based on continuity, Mehrdadi worked with Doug Spradley over several years, with minimal resources, a team suitable for the first division that never missed the regional connection. In the 2008/2009 season, the Paderborn Baskets surprisingly reached the play-offs of the German championship and were only eliminated in the 5th game against the then German champions ALBA Berlin .

After seven years as sports director at the Paderborn Baskets, Nima Mehrdadi announced his resignation at the end of the 2008/09 season at his own request for personal and professional reasons. Nima Mehrdadi was also Vice President of Paderborn Baskets from 2004 to 2009.
