Daniel "Danny" Ayalon ( Hebrew דניאל "דני" אילון; * December 17, 1955 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli diplomat and politician. He is a member of the right-wing Jisra'el Beitenu party .

Life

After school and military service in the Israeli armed forces, he studied economics at Tel Aviv University and completed his studies with an MBA at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, USA. Until 1991 he worked in the private sector. From 1991 to 1992 Ayalon was Israel's ambassador to Panama and from there was appointed Israeli ambassador to the United Nations in New York City . He then served as the Israeli ambassador to the United States .

After retiring from the diplomatic service, he worked from 2006 to December 2008 for the Nefesh B'Nefesh organization , which supports the immigration of Jews to Israel. In August 2008 he became a member of the Jisra'el Beitenu party , successfully ran for the Knesset and became Deputy Foreign Minister after the formation of the government. In the next election in January 2013 it was not re-elected.
