Nine ladies

Nine Ladies in the Peak District National Park is a slightly oval Bronze Age stone circle measuring 11.5 by 10.5 m in a clearing on Stanton Moor , Derbyshire , England .

In the circle there are nine menhirs about one meter high , with a gap on the south side. In the drought summer of 1976, the tenth stone that was underground was found. It is visible now. The circle was built on a leveled area. There are traces of a flat outer rampart and a central cairn .

The stone circle is one of four megalithic structures in Stanton Moor. The stone circle at Doll Tor is also in this area. The broken "King Stone" is about 40 meters southwest. He's the remainder of a Ring Cairns .

Legend has it that the ladies were petrified while dancing on the heather on a Sunday.
