Doll Tor stone circle, near Birchover in Derbyshire

Doll Tor (also called Six Stones) is a small stone circle south of Birchover , west of Stanton Moor in the Peak District , Derbyshire , England . The stone circle dates from the Bronze Age and consists of six stones that are up to one meter high. Remains of a cairn can be found right next to the stone circle . Doll Tor is an oval stone circle near the Andle Stone outcrop . The circle with a diameter of 4.5 by 6.0 m.

Thomas Bateman (1821–1861) excavated the stone circle in 1852, which found bucket urns and small cups. A second excavation took place between 1931 and 1933 by Percy Heathcote. He discovered five cremations and more urns . Three stones were damaged and repaired with cement. The county is unusual for Derbyshire as it has no rampart. However, the stones were once connected with low dry stone masonry . Further discoveries were made in the low cairn, on the eastern side of the circle, in which one of the circle stones stands. It turned out to consist of a central rectangular stone pit that contained the cremation of a woman with a segmented bead of faience. Four more cremations were placed around the inner rim of the pit before it was backfilled and covered with the cairn.

In 1993 strangers changed the position of the stones and added new stones. In 1994 the previous state was restored by English Heritage and the Peak National Park Authority.

Doll Tor is one of four megalithic sites in Stanton Moor. Another stone circle there are the Nine Ladies .

Nearby is the 5.0 m high and 4.5 m wide Andle Stone or Oundle Stone, a sandstone outcrop in the middle of a field.
