Nine stones

Nine Stones ( German  "nine stones" , also called East Moor or Altarnun stone circle) is a stone circle about one kilometer northwest of Bowhayland Farm, 3.0 kilometers south of Altarnun and 11.0 kilometers west of Launceston on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall in England .

Nine stones

Not to be confused with Nine Stanes (also called "Garrol" or "Mulloch wood") in Kincardineshire , Ninestane Rig in Scotland, Nine Stones (Winterbourne Abbas) in Dorset and Nine Stones (Belstone) in Devon .

The Nine Stones were restored in 1889 when only two stones were standing upright. The circle with a diameter of 15.0 meters is the smallest in Bodmin Moor . Eight granite stones form the circle and one stone stands roughly in the middle. A flat, triangular stone lies at the base of one of the stones. The stones are unordered according to their height, with the greatest distance being 1.3 m. A gap in the north indicates a ninth stone. The central stone, a 1.1 meter high stone, may have been removed there in order to use it as a parish boundary stone.

Further reconstruction is necessary as one stone fell on the northeast and several others, including the center stone, are tilted at precarious angles. The stones stand on swampy ground. The livestock has turned the area around the stones into a quagmire.

There are hut circles 550 meters to the northeast and south, as remains of beehive huts .
